Why Millennial Moms Make Great Managers (and Even Better Humans)

Let’s get this out of the way: I’m a millennial mom. I have six children under the age of 10. That’s right—six. Ages 1 to 10. No twins, just vibes.

My morning routine? It’s basically a CrossFit class meets a breakfast buffet meets a hostage negotiation (but with more syrup). I pack lunches like a short-order cook, solve sibling disputes like a UN mediator, and have eyes that can detect a missing shoe from 20 yards away.

And then—I go to work. In the education industry. Because deep down, beyond the fruit snacks in my purse and the glitter glued to my soul, I believe in the power of opportunity. I see what it means when a student gets access to something life-changing. I’ve got six tiny humans at home depending on a better future, and I want to help build it—for all kids, not just my own.

But let’s talk real: Work-life balance?

That phrase gets thrown around like confetti at a Pinterest baby shower, but for working moms—especially in high-stakes fields like education—it’s not about “balance.” It’s about survival choreography. It’s about juggling soccer practice, spelling lists, staff meetings, and the occasional existential crisis—all while replying to emails with one hand and wiping applesauce off your blazer with the other.

The only reason I’m still standing (and mostly coherent) is because I have a strong support system. Family, friends, coworkers who don’t bat an eye when I show up with Bluey stickers on my laptop. I’m blessed, no question.

But here’s the deal, employers: Support shouldn’t be a lottery. It should be a policy.

Young moms don’t just need flexibility—we need investment.

We need leadership pathways. We need to normalize asking for grace and promotions. And most importantly: we need organizations to realize that millennial moms are not a liability—they’re an untapped leadership pipeline.

I mean, who else can:

  • Get four kids out the door in under 20 minutes?
  • Negotiate with a toddler over vegetables and win?
  • Budget for 14 birthday parties in one month and still show up to work with a spreadsheet that slaps?

You want project managers? Hire the mom who plans coordinated Halloween costumes and a full Thanksgiving menu—while running the PTO fundraiser.

You want team leads? Promote the woman who hasn’t sat down since 2019 but still remembers where everyone’s lunchboxes, backpacks, and lost motivation are hidden.

Moms manage LIFE. Trust us—we can handle your teams.

So to all the employers out there: Make space for millennial moms. Not just in your HR handbooks, but at your leadership tables. Give us the tools, the flexibility, the trust. We’re already doing the hardest job in the world—raising good humans—and we’re still showing up, every day, with brains full of ideas and car trunks full of soccer cleats.

We’re not tired (okay, we are a little), but we’re fired up.

And if you give us a shot, we’ll change your workplace—while also changing diapers.
