PRESS RELEASE: Tomorrow’s Talent and Making Hope Happen Expand Youth I.T. Career Opportunities with the Support of Southern California Edison

Building on the success of its internship program, The Making Hope Happen Foundation and Tomorrow’s Talent will continue guiding youth toward career paths that align with their interests and strengths through a structured training and internship initiative focused on Information Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity.

Students will begin the program by completing the YouScience assessment, which helps identify natural abilities, skills, and aptitudes. Tomorrow’s Talent staff will use the assessment results to determine which students demonstrate strong potential in Information Technology and invite them to participate in the program.

Students who are selected will commit dedicated time to their training and development.

Once enrolled, participants will receive:

  • Technical training in Information Technology and Cybersecurity
  • Career readiness support, including resume writing, career networking, and interview etiquette
  • Development of essential employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving

Participants will also engage with industry professionals through guest talks and career conversations, providing valuable insight into real-world IT and cybersecurity roles.

Each participant will complete an internship of at least 60 hours over a period of up to three months. Tomorrow’s Talent will recruit three to five local employers to host these interns, ensuring students gain meaningful hands-on experience that supports their long-term career goals in the IT and cybersecurity fields.

The program will assess up to 30 youth participants to identify their natural talents, skills, and aptitudes through the YouScience assessment.

Program leaders also expect 80 percent of participating students to demonstrate improvement in job-specific skills as a result of the program. This outcome will be verified through assessments and feedback collected from both students and participating employers.

Additionally, five students will be successfully placed into IT or cybersecurity internships, with placement verified through hiring documents and timesheets. The annual program budget for this initiative is $10,000, with 65 percent of the grant dedicated to scholarships that support student participation.

A total of five scholarships will be awarded, each valued at $1,300, helping ensure students have access to the training, resources, and experiences necessary to pursue careers in the technology sector.

Many thanks,
