Eating Crow and Building Teams That Actually Get It

More families across California are turning to homeschooling, hybrid learning, and alternative education models. This shift is reshaping how we think about learning, career readiness, and the kinds of teams needed to support students and communities.

If you’ve known me for a while, you know most of my professional life has revolved around education, helping students connect to jobs and opportunities, building curriculum, and preparing young people to take their next steps with confidence. I’ve worked with schools, employers, and everyone in between to help students get ready for real life.

And yet… here I am.
Homeschooling. Four elementary-aged kids. Full time.

Yes, you read that right.
I am officially eating crow for all the times I swore up and down, “I could never homeschool.” Turns out, I can — and apparently, I am. Send caffeine.

But here’s the thing, I’m not alone. More families are exploring homeschooling, micro-schools, hybrid models, and all sorts of creative approaches to education. It’s not just about pulling kids out of something; it’s about pulling them into something that fits who they are. The education landscape is changing faster than ever, and parents, educators, and employers are all having to rethink what learning and readiness really look like.

And honestly? That’s exciting. Because it means there’s no one-size-fits-all anymore, not for students, not for families, and definitely not for teams like ours.

At Tomorrow’s Talent, we’ve got people who’ve lived education from every angle: the employer who knows what it takes to land a job, the higher ed pro who’s navigated academic systems, the workforce development strategist who’s built pipelines, the K–12 partner who’s shaped classrooms, and yes, the homeschooler who’s teaching fractions while making lunch (hi again).

All those perspectives matter. When we design programs and pathways, we’re not guessing, we’re drawing from real experience. That’s what makes our work with schools, employers, and communities not just effective, but human.

Because when you work with Tomorrow’s Talent, you don’t just get a service or a curriculum. You get a team; one that’s walked in many shoes, asks the real questions, and isn’t afraid to admit when we’ve had to eat a little crow along the way.

And maybe that’s the secret sauce: a little humility, a lot of perspective, and the belief that learning never really stops, no matter where it happens. Whether it’s in a classroom, a conference room, or around my kitchen table with a stack of spelling words, the goal is the same: helping people grow, find their path, and build a future that works for them.

So here’s to the learners — big and small — and to the teams who keep showing up, ready to make it happen.
